![]() ![]() The majority of T-34-85’s were armed with the 85mm ZiS-53 and ZiS-S-53 guns. T-34-85's were also produced from spring 1944 at Zavod No 183 (Nizhniy Tagil) and Zavod No 174 (Omsk). The earliest T-34-85's, produced at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant (Zavod No 112) in Gorkiy from Jnauary 1944 were armed with the D-5T gun which had a distinctive machined mounting collar, of which approximately 300 were produced, and of which no preserved example has so far been found anywhere in the CIS. Prototypes were built with prototype 85mm guns mounted in the original M-1942 turret, but the turret was too small for the new ordnance and consequently a new three man turret was developed. The T–34 remained a highly effective tank in mass production however and it therefore underwent an up-gunning programme. The T-34 was by late 1943 becoming outclassed by new German tank designs such as the 88mm tank gun armed PzKpfw V Panther and PzKpfw VI Tiger, which were beginning to appear on the battlefield in increasing numbers. ![]() ![]() KEY: Location markers are coloured from Green meaning exact to Red meaning MAP CONTROLS: Use slider or mousewheel to zoom, and hold down left mouse button ![]()
